Club begins season at Castaic

The 1st event of the 2008 CBC circuit took place out of the West Ramp on January
13th.  Conditions were cold and breezy.  The lake had come up an estimated 50 feet
from the previous month and it was expected to be a tough day.

Finishing 1st on this day were new member Tony Capparelli and Eddie Carr with the
only limit of the day, totaling 8.86lbs.  I think this shows that the very talented
Capparelli will be a force to be reckoned with this year.  Great job guys!

Taking 2nd place were returning member Mike Carpenter,  who teamed with Bo
Viescas to bring in two fish totaling 5.64lbs,  including the event big fish of 2.48
lbs.  Mike said that these fish tend to bite a lot lighter than the Calicos he has been
catching lately.  Great job guys!

Taking third were Mike Lander and Victor Nardiello with two fish weighing 4.82lbs.
Seems that the fish were once again attracted to that incredible Skeeter Boat.
Great job guys!

Next meeting and tournament

Please remember, if you are unable to attend each monthly meeting, please send
along word, with your dues, if you plan on fishing the tournament.  We want to try to
avoid collecting tourney dues at the ramp the morning of the tournament.  For this
meeting, as it is on Valentine's Day, we decided to hold off on a guest speaker until
the March meeting, when we are expected to be joined by well known western pro
and tournament director Ron Cervenka.

Our next event will be on Sunday, February 17th at Castaic with a non-boater fee of
$25.

A huge thanks to all of those who helped out cooking burgers and/or needling fish
John Barron's recent top stick event at Castaic.  These great folks included Mike
Iljin,  Eddie Carr,  Richard and Lynda Cook,  David Eberle,  Mike Munson,  Ernie
Kost,  Marcia Thompson,  and the great Mark Poulson,  who brought out almost all
of the supplies early that morning.  Thanks also to Howard Gross of the FOCL,  and
Mark O'Borsky,  who brought out the grill.  Thanks again guys!!

RIP Manny Nunez

One of my best memories of my best memories of Manny came on the day we fished
together in February of 2005 at Piru.   The lake had just filled with those recent
heavy rains and needless to say,  the fishing was tough.  It did not matter one bit.
Manny was in a great mood as always and we were laughing most of the day.  With
all the new cover in the water,  Manny kept trying to compare the place to his old
stomping grounds,   Lake Guntersville in Alabama.  We only caught one fish that
day,  but it was one of the best days on the water that I had all year.  Rest in peace
Manny, catch a big one up there my friend….
