Club hits a red hot Cachuma for less than red hot fishing

The 5th event of the 2008 CBC circuit took place at Santa Barbara Counties beautiful Lake Cachuma the weekend of May 17th and 18th,  with 10 teams showing up for the competition.  To say the least,  conditions were tough.  Several teams did not get started until after 8AM on Saturday due to quagga mussel inspections.  Add to this a full moon phase,  a huge algae (or possibly brush fire runoff)   bloom,  and air temperatures hovering in the 100 degree range,  and you have a recipe for a tough tournament.

It was certainly fortunate that club members voted to weigh 12Ó fish at this event as many fish under a pound hit the scales.  Taking first over the two days were Mike Lander and David Sanchez with nine fish totaling 11.77 lbs,  led by MikeŐs 4.15lb event big fish.  Great job guys!

Taking 2nd were Victor and Marcia with nine fish totaling 7.65lbs.  It looks like success continues from that Stratos boat!  Great job!

Finishing 3rd were Mark P. and Bruce P. with five fish weighing 4.59lbs.  Great job guys under very tough conditions!

Without a doubt,  the highlight of the weekend were the incredible Carne asada tacos grilled up by chef  Sanchez.  David grilled up several pounds of the delicious meat both Friday and Saturday night,  complete with all the trimmings.  Awesome job David!

DonŐt forget,  members are invited to stay afterwards at our next club meeting to hash out next years club tournament schedule.  If you want a little say about where youŐll be fishing next year,  that will be your chance!

Our next tournament is at Piru on June 15th,  with a non-boater fee of $30.  Boaters,  make sure your vessels are clean and dry  before you head to the lake!

Thanks to all of those who helped out with the last FOCL BBQ.  Your next chance to help out will be this coming Friday,  June 13th,  starting at about 5PM at the West Ramp.
