Iljin breaks his streak at Castaic

Dateline:  February 17th, 2008

Castaic Lake West Ramp

14 teams took to the water on this cold, breezy morning to compete in the second
event of the2008 CBC circuit.  Being sick myself, I was at less than 100%, which
gave great hope to the rest of the field!  As it turned out, Mike Iljin may have been
sick too, for another reason.  He said he had not caught a fish since Thanksgiving!
He gave thanks on this day, as he teamed up with David Sanchez to weigh a
winning limit of 12.6lbs, led by the event big fish of 4.15lbs.  Great job guys!

Finishing second were Victor Nardiello and Tony Franks with a nice limit of 11.45lbs.
This was the first tournament for Victor's shiny, tournament rigged Stratos boat,
and word has it that fish were attracted to the boat by its incredible gel coat.  Great
job guys!

Taking third were Mike Lander and Bob Triggs Jr.  with four fish weighing 8.95lbs.
Lander said they probably would have caught a limit but they could not compete
with the shine of Victor's boat.  Either way, great job guys!

Two Upcoming events

There is a team tournament coming up out of the West Ramp on March 22nd, with
proceeds going to the Jr. Lifeguard Program.  The entry fee, including options, is
$250, the same as the AC tournaments.  This is a great change to fish a low
pressure tournament, with good $$$ given out, plaques, and a ton of great raffle
items.  We will also need help running the event, come on out and fish and/or help
if you can.

The annual lower lake float tube derby is coming up on April 26th.  $40 pre entry or
$50 the day of the event.  Lots of prizes, plaques, and big fish jackpot.  Come on out
and fish or help out if you can.

More on this event in next month's newsletter.

Next meeting

The speaker at our next meeting will be veteran Pro and tournament director Ron
Cervenka.  I am sure Ron will talk at length about the need for our boats to be clean
and dry,  especially with the recent closure of Lake Casitas.  I am told that
inspections for quagga mussels may have already started at Piru,  where will be on
the 16th.
