BBZ gets it done at Piru
Dateline: March 16th, 2008
Piru Lake
14 teams took to the water on this day for the 3rd event of the 2008 CBC circuit.
Launch took place out of a debris filled ramp in Reasoner's Cove. Then again, at
least the lake was open, as nearby Castaic was closed due to high winds. The winds
were not so strong on Piru, and the bite was not too strong either.
Going for that one big bite, Ron Licari and the editor headed toward the north end
bouy lines, where Ron
proceeded to start throwing the BBZ swimbait. Just a few minutes later the 8.23lb
event big fish smashed the bait right on the surface! It was Ron's first ever swimbait
fish. Along with a nice bed fish he caught later that afternoon, we (or I should say
Ron!) copped the top spot with a two fish total of 12.41lbs. Great job Ron!
Taking second were Mike Lander and Danny Lim with two nice fish totaling 6.33lbs,
led by a nice 5.08lb kicker. Rumor has it that Lander was on a big bed fish for a while
but could not get it to commit. Either way, great job on your second place finish guys!
Taking third were Michael Stern and Ken Boyce with one of only two limits of the day,
weighing in at 6.08lbs. Ken came all the way from Utah to fish this event. Great job
gentlemen!
